Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Policy

Sydney Art School (SAS) is dedicated to providing a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment for all students, tutors/assessors, and staff, in compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).Scope
This policy applies to all individuals on Sydney Art School premises, including students, tutors/assessors holding TAE40122 (Certificate IV in Training and Assessment) or equivalent qualifications, and other staff involved in art education and training activities.
Policy

  1. Abusive Behavior
    Abusive behavior, including verbal, physical, or discriminatory conduct, is not tolerated at Sydney Art School. Any individual engaging in such behavior will be subject to immediate removal procedures in accordance with SAS disciplinary policies and applicable regulations.
  2. Smoking
    Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes or vaping devices, is strictly prohibited on all SAS premises, including studios, classrooms, and outdoor areas, to maintain a safe and healthy environment for creative learning.
  3. Hazards and Accidents
    All hazards (e.g., spills, unsafe equipment, or studio-related risks) or accidents must be reported immediately to tutors/assessors. Accident reports are to be submitted via the aXcelerate system. Records of incidents will be securely maintained for a minimum of 5 years, as required by WHS regulations.
  4. First Aid
    First aid kits are readily available in all studio and training areas and are clearly marked. Emergency contact numbers are prominently displayed throughout SAS premises for immediate access in case of an emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Tutors/Assessors: Ensure a safe and supportive environment for art education, report hazards, and facilitate incident reporting through aXcelerate.
  • Students/Staff: Adhere to WHS policies, report hazards or incidents promptly, and follow emergency procedures.
  • SAS Management: Maintain compliance with WHS standards, provide necessary safety resources, and ensure regular policy updates and staff training.

Review
This policy is reviewed annually or as needed to ensure alignment with WHS legislation, RTO Standards, and the unique needs of Sydney Art School’s creative learning environment.
