Art Classes for Kids – Exploring the Evolution of Australian Art

Our program guides children through Australia’s artistic heritage, from its ancient roots to contemporary expressions.

  • Indigenous Art: The journey begins with the world’s oldest continuous artistic tradition, dating back 70,000 – 80,000 years. This profound and enduring art form reflects deep cultural storytelling, spiritual connection, and knowledge of the natural world.

  • Colonial Art: As European settlers arrived in the late 1700s, artists grappled with portraying Australia’s unique landscapes, flora, and fauna. Their early attempts laid the groundwork for an evolving artistic identity.

  • Emerging Art Movements: Over time, Australian artists embraced and adapted global art movements such as Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Modernism, Realism, and Contemporary Art. These influences helped shape a distinctly Australian style that continues to evolve today.

Through this timeline, children gain an understanding of how cultural exchange and historical events have shaped Australian art, inspiring them to create their own works that reflect their unique experiences and perspectives.
