What You Will Do & Learn

Suitable for all levels of experience, this course will provide clear and detailed instruction on how to use this dynamic and popular medium. For absolute beginners, you will start with some fundamental watercolour techniques, including:
  • Wet-in-wet
  • Wet-on-dry
  • Drybrush
  • Blending
  • Colour mixing
  • Controlling tones
  • Understanding the materials and medium
  • Negative and positive painting
  • Lifting off and correcting mistakes
  • Creating texture
And over the course of the term you will develop ways to apply these techniques to a variety of topics. Subjects will vary from term to term, but the tutor will set and demonstrate each subject for you before you paint it yourself.

Paper: 300gsm – good paper to start with no hidden surprises
Board: Marine Ply – 5ply is the best
Cosmetic Sponge
Small Water Container (small ice cream tub)
Towelling – White Clean – face washer
OR Paper Block A3 size minimum, medium surface
Paints
Burnt Sienna
Raw Sienna
Ultramarine Blue
Phthalo Blue
Winsor Yellow
Quinacridone Gold/Australian Gold
Permanent Rose
There are many, many other colours some of which will be suggested in class or you may discover them for yourself.
Brushes
You can look forward to a large collection of brushes of many types and sizes.
If they are looked after they will last for a very long time
