Learning Oil Painting from the Old Masters

In this series of art classes you will develop the fundamentals of traditional oil painting by working through painting projects inspired by the artworks of Old Master painters.

Foundational aspects of painting such as tonality, composition, colour and texture are taught as well as the characteristics of oil painting materials and tools.

Throughout the course, students will explore essential painting techniques, some of which include impasto, alla prima, glazing and scumbling. Classes are accompanied by painting demonstrations, analysis of Old Master paintings and discussions of technical art history studies (the study of artist’s techniques and materials).
