Course Overview

This intensive 8-week course immerses participants in the dynamic world of anime and manga as a contemporary illustration art form.

Designed for students enrolled in the Diploma of Visual Arts (CUA51120), Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts (CUA60720), as well as non-award students interested in Japanese-inspired stylized drawing, the program explores anime and manga as valid professional illustration styles within broader visual arts practice.

Participants develop technical skills in character design, expressive figure drawing, inking, dynamic posing, and narrative storytelling—while building a personal portfolio of works. The course emphasizes hands-on studio sessions, combining traditional and digital techniques to refine individual creative voices.

Suitable for beginners with basic drawing interest through to advanced artists seeking specialization in illustration streams, this course aligns directly with drawing and illustration electives (units listed separately). By the end, you’ll create resolved anime/manga-inspired artworks, ready for professional presentation or further qualification pathways. No prior anime experience required—just enthusiasm for this vibrant, globally influential art form!
