Morris is a professional art tutor and surveyor. His true love is painting art, especially portraits. His work centres on capturing the emotions and the soul of the most amazing creatures that God has ever created for the whole world – human beings.
Morris Yang is an outstanding Australian contemporary oil painter. His work draws on the style of his favourite old master- Rembrandt and the later impressionists in their use in colours.
His motto: light is the life of the painting while the edges and brushwork are the soul. He has loved painting since childhood. In recent years, Morris has studied extensively and trained in portrait painting. He is engrossed with the light, shadow and brush strokes in the picture as he believes that the brushwork is the embodiment of the painters’ ideas to the viewers.
It has been Morris’ dream to become an artist since he was a child. He still remembers that he was so amazed by those paintings on the furniture glasses when he was around his father who was a carpenter in a country village. Although his parents could not afford him to study Fine Arts, he strove to keep art practicing throughout his life till now. He studied at Sydney Art School and National Art School, but most of the time, he has been training himself as there is nowhere to learn what he really wants.
In recent years, Morris has been working hard in oil painting and charcoal drawing, especially in portraiture. He absorbed the brushwork techniques of his favourite old master- Rembrandt and the colour theories from the later impressionists. American modern masters Richard Schmidt, David A Leffel, and Norwegian figurative painter Odd Nerdrum have influenced his art style. Morris likes to show the emotions and the spirit of the most magical and beautiful creature -human beings, that God has ever created for the world. He is glued to the light, shadow, brush strokes and the edges in the picture. Morris is participating some exhibitions physically or on line with some local artists. He is an exhibition member of Royal Art Society NSW, a member of the Portrait Society of America and some local art societies and galleries. Morris is tutoring at Sydney Art School, and he has some private classes for small groups and individuals as well.
