About Sydney Art School

Sydney Art School is a private visual arts college offering art courses founded on the disciplines of painting, drawing, printmaking and silversmithing.

The School has built a reputation for excellence in developing observational and representational artistic skills.  These skills are the essential foundation for any artist.

Founded in February 2009 by the Principal Helen Summers the school sought to address the gap in teaching skills to all students in the core technical skills required to draw and paint a realistic likeness of a subject.

Sydney Art School is approved by the Australian Government to award qualifications at certificate & diploma levels under the Australian Qualificactions Framework.  It is the only private college in Australia that is focussed solely on the visual arts to have achieved this accreditation.

Our family of tutors bring together some of Australia’s best award winning artists,  professional art practitioners and educators.  Tutors include winners and finalists in some of Australia's most prestigous art prizes including the Archibald Prize, the Moran Portrait Prize & the Gallipolli Memoral Prize.  The tutor’s role is to give “in studio” instruction on techniques combined with personal feedback to help develop your technical and professional skills as an artist.

The School currently provides teaching in the disciplines of drawing, painting, printmaking & silversmithing. All courses are delivered in studio facilities across 3 venues in Sydney.

The School caters to a diverse range of students with courses covering tertiary, secondary and primary level studies.  In addition to domestic students the school attracts students from overseas who come to Australia to study art at Sydney Art School.
