Matthew Weatherstone

Matthew has carved a career as a professional artist with great success in exhibitions.

As an artist his strong technical skills are evident in his work - but are balanced with a highly developed approach to the concept and messages that is being communicated to the viewer.

A dedicated visual artist driven by a passion for understanding, capturing and expressing that which is seen and experienced, drawing on the fruits of a curious and contemplative mind.

A firm believer in the therapeutic, transformative and enriching qualities found in creating, experiencing and engaging with others through art. This belief manifests itself in the sharing of creative inspiration, ideas and artistic technique through the practice of art therapy and engagement with fellow artists and the broader community.

Artist Statement

An artist endlessly fascinated by the experience and understanding of light, colour and darkness, by the drama and subtlety in shifts of tone and hue. Determinedly wrought artworks are drawn from perpetual contemplation and wrestling with ideas, from immersion in place and expanse, from keen observation of the organic and inorganic, from singular personal engagement and the communal experience of humanity.
Light and colour are quickly yet carefully captured in studies; form and detail are observed and rendered in exploratory sketches before finally, through cultivation and refining, the artworks themselves gradually find
form and emerge.
